Meet Rebecca

Rebecca Byrne was born and raised in Montgomery, AL. The youngest of six children born to Flora and Arthur Dukes, Rebecca is a graduate of The Montgomery Academy. Following her graduation from high school, Rebecca moved on to Auburn University where she continued to excel academically, graduating cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in English.

After her graduation from Auburn in 1978, Rebecca went to work for Colonial Management as Director of Speaker Services. In 1981, Rebecca married Bradley Byrne, a young attorney from Mobile. From 1981 to 1982, Rebecca served as Director of Public Relations for the Southwest Alabama Health Systems Agency. In 1982, Rebecca went to work for the American Red Cross as a Consultant in Donor Resources Development, a post she held until 1984.

In 1984, Rebecca and Bradley were blessed with the birth of their first child and Rebecca transitioned to the role of a full-time mother. From 2002 until 2005, Rebecca was a free-lance writer and regular contributor to the Mobile Bay Monthly. In 2006, she made another career transition, working as a commercial real estate agent for White-Spunner & Associates, Inc. Most recently, Rebecca was named Executive Director of the United Way of Baldwin County.

Always civically minded, Rebecca has continuously sought out ways to serve her community. She has been a member of the Arts in Education Committee for Mobile/Baldwin Envision Project, the Eastern Shore Art Center, and the Fairhope Educational and Enrichment Foundation Board (FEEF) where she served as Chairman of Phantasy of the Arts, the annual fundraiser to promote arts education. In addition, Rebecca was Senior Warden, Vestry All Saints Episcopal Church, Treasurer and Chairman of the Mobile Public Library Board, member and President of the Baldwin County Trailblazers, President of the Eastern Shore Republican Women’s Club, and Chairman of the Fairhope Center for the Arts Council.

Currently, Rebecca is a member of the Fairhope Rotary Club, the University of South Alabama Baldwin county Community Advisory Council, the Standing Committee of the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast of the Episcopal Church, and the Alabama Archives and History Foundation. Rebecca also serves as Chairman of the Beckwith Camp and Conference Center Board in Fairhope.

Rebecca and Bradley have been married for 28 years and are the proud parents of four children. Patrick, 25, is employed with Hargrove & Associates, Inc. in Mobile. Kathleen, 23, works for the Huntsville Chamber of Commerce. Laura, 19, is a sophomore at Tulane University, and Colin, 17, is a junior at Fairhope High School.
